What does a company that analyzes dark data have to do with a social selling platform? Hardly anything, can be said. But soon they will share an office in Lisbon. Semalytix and Trendiamo have enjoyed close friendship since their founders toiled side by side in the Founders Camp of the Bielefeld Founders Foundation for the perfect start of their businesses. The social selling platform Trendiamo moved its technical development to Lisbon, one of the most vibrant start-up ecosystems in Europe, to find and promote talent. Meanwhile, Semalytix was able to successfully use its proximity to the East Westphalian universities. Just three years later, the tech company grew so much that it first moved into a larger office space in Bielefeld, and now is about to open its first branch office. As an internationally oriented company, Semalytix was looking for opportunities abroad. Time to revive the old friendship! Why not open a branch in Lisbon and also use the potential of Portugal’s capital? So the camp friendship will soon become an office community!
Taming Dark Data: Data-Driven Insights For Smart Decision Making
Bielefeld, March 1st, 2018
Semalytix leverages the latest advances in artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing and semantic technologies to develop tools which enable the generation of insights by analysing huge and heterogeneous data streams in real time.
Being successful with customer-specific project-based work, Semalytix is currently developing its flagship product BEACON.
BEACON is a web-based data management platform that relies on a Google-like interface to provide access to relevant data stored in a large knowledge graph. New data is ingested into the knowledge graph in real time from multiple sources. The data is analysed semantically using state-of-the-art natural language processing and machine learning to determine relevance to a given domain and task. Key extracted facts are stored in the knowledge graph to support generation of actionable insights delivered through dashboards that are updated automatically as new data arrives.
With its fast-paced growth, Semalytix has caught the attention of the press. In the local newspaper “Neue Westfälische”, Semalytix was featured in an article in the economy section, giving us the opportunity to showcase our work and to become more visible in the public.
The Bielefeld-based start-up Semalytix was able to increase its headcount more than fivefold in the past year and is currently the fastest-growing company in the area of small and medium-sized enterprises in OWL.
“As a start-up, we found the best conditions here in OWL. Thanks to the university and the generally good network, we were able to expand our team with highly trained employees who are constantly developing our product. This enabled us to achieve the highest growth rate in OWL at the time and to finance ourselves completely”, says co-founder and CEO Janik Jaskolski. Semalytix was founded in 2015 in an effort to make dark data accessible to companies and thus usable.
