LLM4KMU: Semalytix joins NRW-funded project bringing open-source LLMs to SMEs

Semalytix is a partner in LLM4KMU, a Bielefeld University–coordinated project funded by North Rhine-Westphalia to help small and medium-sized enterprises adopt open-source Large Language Models.

Semalytix is partner in the LLM4KMU Project, which is funded by the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia in the program NEXT.IN.NRW. Artificial intelligence is becoming a key competitive factor for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), yet its adoption is often hindered by technical barriers. The LLM4KMU project aims to address these challenges by enabling the efficient use of open source Large Language Models (LLMs) in SMEs. Coordinated by Bielefeld University and funded through the NEXT.IN.NRW program of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the project focuses on making advanced AI technologies more accessible and practical for businesses.

About the project

The rapid development of Large Language Models (LLMs), also known as generative AI, has created new opportunities for companies to automate processes, improve efficiency, and reduce operational costs. LLM4KMU supports SMEs in realizing these benefits by developing tailored approaches for integrating open source LLMs into their business environments. The project partners are developing best practices and building an experimentation platform that allows companies to evaluate and implement LLM technologies effectively. In addition, the consortium will create practical implementation guidelines that help businesses train, adapt, and optimize LLMs for their specific use cases. This will improve model reliability while reducing operating costs. By relying on open source technologies that can be integrated into existing IT infrastructures, companies retain full control over their data.

Consortium

LLM4KMU brings together a strong consortium of academic and industry partners. In addition to Bielefeld University, the project includes Semalytix GmbH, CLAAS Selbstfahrende Erntemaschinen GmbH, ellamind GmbH, ZENIT GmbH, primeLine Solutions GmbH, and Matplus GmbH. Together, the partners contribute their expertise to lower the barriers to AI adoption and help SMEs leverage the full potential of generative AI.
